EAWE is an international non-profit organization that promotes and supports the development of wind energy science. Our goal is to exploit wind energy to its full potential for the benefit of the world. As an international alliance of more than 55 universities in Europe and the US, EAWE is a community of worldwide experts in wind energy that provides a credible voice of tomorrow’s wind energy research.
EAWE’s vision is to actively encourage wind energy science and education to achieve a more sustainable and cleaner future.
EAWE’s mission is to:
Connect expertise in wind energy science and education
Provide a forum for wind energy knowledge exchange
Improve diversity, equity and inclusion in wind energy science
Promote education, awareness, career development and interest in wind energy
Be a credible, legitimate and independent scientific voice of European wind energy research
EAWE was found in 2003 and is registered in Oldenburg, Germany. Our main decisions are taken in the General Assembly which we organize twice a year. All members have voting rights. The daily business is organized by the Board (president, vice-president, branch manager) and the treasurer.
To ensure the effectiveness of our work and to cover the wide range of wind energy, EAWE is supported by several organizational and technical committees that meet on a regular basis.
Next to our committees, EAWE has founded an international open access scientific journal in 2016 called ‘Wind Energy Science’(WES). The journal is dedicated to the publication and public discussion of studies that take an interdisciplinary perspective of fundamental or pioneering research in wind energy.
EAWE organizes its own events for that the members can apply as a host. Our Torque conference is taking place every even year and our Wind Energy Science Conference (WESC) every odd year. Torque focuses mainly on technical science and WESC is the broader event that covers all aspects in wind energy. During the conferences EAWE has established an award ceremony and hands over several awards to honor great achievements within the wind energy research. On a more educational level EAWE organizes an annual PHD Seminar which as well is hosted by applying members.
If you are a university or research institute being active in wind energy research and education, we invite you to become a member of the European Academy of Wind Energy.
