The position is part of the project "Adaptive operating strategies for existing wind turbines".

The project aims to jointly develop adaptive strategies to operate existing wind turbines in a way that meets current and future challenges. The focus points are the integration of current energy prices, a Lidar-based wind forecast and a load monitoring as part of the operation. At the same time, the project aims to extend the lifetime of wind turbines, increase the energy output, reduce noise emissions and support the electrical grid through data-based control. The strategies developed in the project will be tested on a 2 MW and on two 6 MW research plants.

The Institute of Structural Analysis (ISD) invites applications for the position of a
Group Leader (Postdoc, m/f/d)
within the "Composites" department
(Salary Scale 14 TV-L, 100 %)
to be appointed at the earliest possible date. The position is initially limited to 3 years.

Responsibilities and duties
The “Composites” department at the Institute of Structural Analysis is divided into two closely collaborating groups – “Structures” and “Materials”. The successful candidate will manage the “Materials” group. Activities will include developing and implementing models to simulate progressive failure of composite materials and layered structures, securing projects, supervising doctoral candidates and publication of findings in international journals.

The department is guided by the principle “composites as energy efficient and sustainable materials” and, through their research, aims to contribute to energy transition as well as expand their network. An affinity or basic experience in the fields of energy-efficient aviation, wind energy, hydrogen storage, recyclability or optimum utilisation of composite materials would therefore be advantageous. The successful candidate shall participate in teaching at the institute or teach independently in their area of research.

Requirements for employment
Candidates must have completed a university science degree in the field of computational mechanics. Good German proficiency (level B2) with the intention of reaching level C1 within a year is essential.
